The Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. Ananthanarayana Iyer from the Kollam Division has proceeded on a 15-day leave.

The Superintendent of Police, Mr. Bensley, is scheduled to embark on a circuit visit to North Travancore tomorrow. Following the conclusion of the visit, he will commence on a 40-day leave.

The "Star" reports that the Maharajah has granted consent to merge the Padmanabhapuram division with Thiruvananthapuram.

A circus troupe from Kollam arrived in Attingal yesterday, following their performance at Anchuthengu (Anjengo). It is reported that they plan to stay in Attingal for two or three days.

Recently, 30,000 bags of paddy were unloaded in Colachal. An additional 11,340 sacks of paddy are expected to arrive soon. Traders are currently selling a kota* of grain at four and a quarter rupees.

It is noted that a new order has been issued regarding paddy levy. According to the new directive, there is no objection to tenants providing the levy either in paddy or in cash.

The boatman at Kollampuzha jetty displays indifference towards transporting people, insisting that individuals must navigate the crossing on their own, regardless of who it is. This matter should be investigated by the authorities.

Work has been initiated on the premises of Thiruvaratukavu temple, but it has been executed inefficiently. Navigating the area has become challenging due to the incomplete status of the project. The delay in the work is attributed to the absence of a "Deity visit*" in the month of Makaram (mid-January) this time.

There has been a case involving a Mohammedan individual from Pallipuram along with some goldsmiths who were engaged in counterfeiting coins. When the Mohammedan went to the registration court at Kazhakootam with some counterfeit coins, the police apprehended him and his associates.

A young woman named Miss Mary Peter, a midwife at Thaikkatu Hospital, is known for tirelessly attending to numerous cases among the Mohammedans, selflessly working without any expectation of reward. I believe it is necessary for the government to pay attention to her welfare.

The Vetta (Pallivetta)* at Kilimanoor Temple took place on the 27th of Kumbham (mid-February). The "Deity visit" was a grand spectacle, drawing a substantial crowd. However, the fireworks did not meet expectations. Mr. A. P. Nair, a Hindu preacher from Neyyattinkara, delivered a speech on the principles of Hinduism within the temple premises. (Reporter)

The absence of a pond at Chirayinkeezhu Sharkara Temple has posed significant challenges for the local community. Numerous visitors from various regions attending the Bharani festival have repeatedly expressed their grievances about the lack of water facilities. Despite multiple complaints, no action has been taken to address this issue. It would be greatly appreciated if the Magistrate Mr. Govinda Pilla could investigate and take necessary steps to alleviate this problem. (Reporter)

A meeting was convened at the Attingal reading room yesterday evening to express gratitude for the suspension of the rice levy. During the assembly, it was unanimously decided to send a cable to the Dewan and His Highness the Maharajah to convey heartfelt thanks. High Court Advocate M. R. Narayana Pillai and M. Govindan, both enthusiastic members, were the main organizers of the meeting.

I trust that the conscientious Munsif will investigate and ascertain the motives behind the clerks' delay in forwarding numerous cases from the Attingal Munsif Court to the Thiruvananthapuram Munsif Court, despite the considerable passage of time. The parties involved are also encountering difficulties in obtaining the copies of the verdicts.

The ritual of weighing on the crossbow* took place on the 28th of Kumbham (mid-February) at Palliyaparampu Temple in Pallipuram. During the event, an individual fell in front of the crossbow and sustained severe injuries after rolling for some time. The person narrowly escaped a fatal outcome, as the carriage did not run over him. It is surprising that this weighing practice has not been discontinued. Implementing measures through police intervention to prevent such accidents in the future, under the government's guidance, would prevent untimely deaths among the public. (a correspondent)
