A great assembly of Indians met at Caxton Hall, London, last Tuesday with Sir Charles Dilke presiding the gathering, to mourn the death of Lord Ripon. Sir Charles opined that if the later rulers had followed the administration policy of Lord Ripon, there would have been no justification for the atrocities that are happening in India now. Babu Surendranath Banerjee, who stood before the audience as the first of the speakers, is known to have delivered a speech with the utmost eloquence.

In Bombay, 16 Kms from Manmatha station on the Great Indian Peninsular Railway, one of the train assistants had an illicit relation with a woman near Nandakavan. Knowing the liaison, her husband, who was hiding with his companions at the meeting place, caught the man, wrapped him in a cloth, doused him with kerosene, and burnt him alive.
