The coinage muddle is being lulled to rest and quiet by our benign Sircar. All sorts of silver-coins are allowed free circulation without any reference to their standard weight. That is the all-important thing. Such coins as are suspected to contain a mixture of copper or lead are to be rejected as spurious. We have our own reasons to fear that the number of silver coins in circulation and in Sircar treasure custodies far exceeds the number actually issued from the mint. The Sircar is rather shy in facing the muddle, Why is this? The ways of our Sircar are mysterious as are the ways of God. When a muddle like the present one sprouts up, It is the duty of the Sircar to get at its bottom and to eradicate it. With the Sircar there is nothing like a bold encounter. The Sircar would be well advised if a commission be instituted to make enquiries in the matter and to suggest ways by which the evil might be averted. It is hard to our patriotic sense that our newspapers venture forth the scheme to displace Travancore coinage by the British Indian. Our dear old chuckram and Fanam and Cash to cease to exist! It is impossible. We would want it sadly.

They say that the Travancore Educational Department has no head. It is all rancouring in its brains. No! The secretary is its head or rather at its head. As secretary, so his subordinates. As his frame, so is the frame of the Department. Look! Mr. Raja Rama Row was ailing and was not his Government ailing too. When Lord Curzon was in India every one you met with in the street was an Imperialist. And now we have all Liberals - Liberals in the Huzur Secretariat-Liberal out of necessity, enough to ring out old ways and ring in new-year-greetings for all the weak and old officers in the sublime service of the State.
